Help us provide art workshops for our tamariki

Hutt City Council’s community hubs in Taita and Wainuiomata are looking for artists, musicians, drama groups, weavers, puppeteers and more to provide arts activities for tamariki 12 years and under over the July school holidays.

One of the themes they’re looking for is Matariki related workshops. If you need inspiration, there are lots of great websites with information and stories about Matariki, including Te Wananga O Aotearoa.

Examples of workshop activities could be:

  • Visual arts classes
  • Film-making
  • Dance – hip hop
  • Raranga / weaving
  • Taiaha ma rakau
  • Music
  • Puppet making

If you’re interested, please submit your proposal before the deadline of Wednesday 10 June to Council’s Community Arts Advisor, Pippa Sanderson.

Please include with your proposal:  

  • A description of your workshop and how long for – 1 or 2 hours, more than one session?
  • How many tamariki can you fit in each session?
  • Which hub or hubs you’d like to work at ( *see below, you can choose more than one)
  • Dates / times you are available between 2 – 5pm from Mon 6 – Fri 17 July,
  • What resources / materials / kind of space you need,
  • Your contact details,
  • A high res photo of your work and / or a workshop you’ve led.

The fee paid to you to run a 1 hour workshop is $150 gross, not including materials, including pack in and out before and after the 1 hour workshop.

The fee paid to you to run a 2 hour workshop is $250 gross, not including materials, including pack in and out before and after the 2 hour workshop.

* Wainuiomata Community Hub
1 Queens Road, Wainuiomata.
Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Between 2 – 5pm, including pack out.

* Walter Nash Centre
Taine Street, Taita.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Between 2 – 5pm, including pack out.
