The RE@CH (Revolutionizing Expression at The Clubhouse) Festival encourages youth to express themselves about issues that are important to them by creating media that gives voice to their ideas, feelings, and concerns.
Over 500 inspiring projects were submitted from around the world (from more than 100 Clubhouses located in 18 countries), and these were narrowed down to 78 finalists in 12 categories.
Naenae Clubhouse Coordinator, Lily Chalmers, said “we’re super proud of these guys and how much work they’ve put into all these collaborations. It’s not easy to pull together big projects like this, but we’ve built great relationships through this work, and we feel such a sense of achievement after finishing.”
The two films are finalists in the Animation and Narrative Video categories.
‘Rata and the Tree’ is a traditional story animated by members and mentors at Naenae Clubhouse. The animation was originally created for the Highlight Festival – a light festival in Lower Hutt attended by over a hundred thousand people.
‘In the Basement’ is a short film made by Naenae Amplify, a team made up of members and mentors from Naenae Clubhouse. They managed to plan, write, shoot and edit the short film in 48 hours, on location in Naenae, for 48 Hour Film competition. The film tells the story of a group of young people who venture into an abandoned hospital in the hopes of finding a mysterious entity who will grant them one wish… but not all will make it to the end of their journey.
Winners are selected by a panel of judges but the public also have an opportunity to choose their favourite. You can vote for the winner of the Audience Award in each category at clubhousereach.org. Voting closes 23 March.
