Get creative with Art Play Day at The Dowse

Play with clay and kinetic sand, craft your own finger puppets, make handmade Christmas cards, build a hut, guess the scents of different plants, and enjoy fantastical puppet shows.

Come along to The Dowse for a free day of art and play on Saturday 14 December from 10am to 1pm, with activities for all ages – from toddlers to teens to grown ups.

The Art Play Day will be taking over the entire museum, with activities in family lounge, out on the front court, and in the creative workshop, with plenty of ways to explore the exhibitions too.

Steph McDonald, Communications Manager at The Dowse, says the Art Play Day is a great chance for families to try out new creative activities, and play with art materials they might not have at home.

“There’ll be all sorts of interesting things to play with, like clay, kinetic sand and ink rolling” she says. “It’s a good time to get crafty for Christmas, with special areas to create cards and small gifts.”

“There’ll also be some special art inspired puppet performances, Imagination Playground, and bubble blowing too, which are always popular with the littlies.”

“We think it’s so important to give kids the chance to play, explore, and create while they’re young,” says Steph. “We’re hoping to create a whole new generation of arts lovers in the Hutt.”
