HighLight 2017 wins Best Community Event award

The first-ever HighLight: Carnival of Lights was named the Best Community Event at the New Zealand Events Association awards in Auckland on Tuesday night.

The judges said they were impressed by the success of the event in its inaugural year, and by the community values of inclusiveness and accessibility that underpinned its development. HighLight 2017 attracted over 120,000 people to Riddiford Garden in central Lower Hutt, and raised over $10,000 for charity partner Alzheimers Wellington.

In her acceptance speech, event director Carla Steed acknowledged the fantastic support of the Lower Hutt community in making the event a success, as well as the wider team of HighLight supporters, suppliers, and sponsors.

HighLight: Carnival of Lights will return in 2019 over Labour Weekend, with planning already underway.
