The tag and app, called Doggone, is designed to help reunite lost dogs with their owners using Bluetooth and mobile technology and will be available to all Lower Hutt dog owners this dog registration period.
Trialled in Stokes Valley for three months in 2018/2019, 84 per cent of survey participants said that Doggone should be included in Dog Registrations for 2019-2020.
“The Lower Hutt community loves their dogs and we were blown away with the feedback we received from the trial” said Regulatory Services Divisional Manager Geoff Stuart.
“These dog owners were very enthusiastic about Doggone with 93 per cent saying there was a need for a service like it.”
Available this Dog Registration period, the option to sign up to Doggone will be included in the upcoming Dog Registration invoices.
“Your invoice will include the price of Doggone as part of your registration costs, with an option to opt out.
“We’re looking forward to seeing it utilised across Lower Hutt.
