The Winter Woolly Bird Count is back in 2019

Don your winter woollies and binoculars; invite your friends and whānau for a day of bird counting of a different kind!

Winter Woolly Bird Count

Where: Various locations around Central Hutt (City Centre)
When: 10am – 4pm, Saturday 8 June, 2019

In celebration of International Yarn Bombing Day on 11 June, Hutt City Council and the local artist behind Wonky Stitches NZ invite you to join us on a unique bird counting event for all ages on Saturday, 8 June.

Don your winter woollies, grab your binoculars, and invite your friends and whānau for an afternoon of scavenger hunting to find these uniquely created yarn birds.

How can you get involved?

  • Download the Goosechase App, search for the ‘Winter Woolly Bird Count’ and sign your team up to join the fun.
  • You can also download the trail map from Wonky Stitches NZ on Facebook or pick up a copy at the War Memorial Library on the day.
  • Document each bird’s location on the map by taking a photo – it can be a selfie with the birds or just a photo of the birds.
  • Once you have found as many birds as you can, make a creative photo album and upload to Wonky Stitches NZ on Facebook.
  • Drop your completed map into the War Memorial Library by 4pm on Saturday 8 June.

Prizes will be awarded for:

  • the most bird photos captured and posted online
  • the most creative
  • the most with woolly hat’s
  • finding the biggest bird
  • finding the winning ‘Design a Bird’ bird

World Wide Knit in Public Day Workshop

In support of Te Omanga Hospice, come along to knit or crochet blanket squares. Instructions and assistance to create your blanket square will be available. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to expert yarn artists! All squares made will be turned into blankets and donated to Te Omanga Hospice. For more information visit Wonky Stitches NZ on Facebook.
