Bike Box Open Day

On Wednesday 23 January, Naenae Clubhouse held its first Bike Box Open Day with Rebicycle, The Youthwise Trust and Greater Wellington Regional Council.

Bike Box is an initiative run by Naenae Clubhouse to fix and recycle bikes back into the community.

The open day had bike techs checking and fixing bikes, a bike rodeo, giveaways, a BBQ, music and extra bikes, supplied by partners, for those that didn’t have them.

“Everyone had an awesome time learning new skills and riding on the basketball courts.” Said Clubhouses Coordinator Lily Chalmers

“Bikes are a great access point for mechanical and engineering conversations, they keep our kids independent and fit, and there are a great range of projects from bike lights to making stickers and pannier bags to explore in the Clubhouses.

“Through bikes we can access rich programming for our young people, not to mention championing sustainability!

The Bike Box is open every Thursday after school, to fix and recycle bikes back into the community. We’ll be holding Bike Box open days every holidays this year, and more bike related activities at Naenae Clubhouse.
