Dog bylaw information for recreational areas

Calling all dog owners: Are you aware of our Hutt City Council Dog Bylaws for dog exercise areas?

Please refer to the our website to identify our off leash dog exercise areas.

Daylight savings is fast approaching (Sunday 29 September 2019 – Sunday 5 April 2020) so please ensure you are aware of where you can take your dog over this period.

  • Petone Beach:Ozzy Dog Beach Leash
    • During Daylight saving dogs are not permitted on Petone Beach between 9am- 8pm
    • Outside of these times they must be on a leash
    • Dog exercise areas are Hikoikoi Park area and West of the Petone Wharf
  • Beaches in Eastbourne:
    • Dogs are not permitted between 9am- 8pm during Daylight saving
    • Outside of these times they must be on a leash
    • This includes the picnic and leisure areas of Point Howard, Sorrento Bay, Lowry Bay, York Bay, Mahina Bay, Days Bay, Rona Bay and Robinson Bay

Please note: all dogs are required to be leashed at all times in any public area which includes bush tracks such as Te Whiti Riser, Belmont Regional Park, Eastbourne walking tracks and other parks and tracks throughout Lower Hutt.
