Get ready to Bike the Hutt!

Hutt City Council, Upper Hutt City Council, the local cycling community and our media partner The Hits have joined forces to bring you – #BiketheHutt, a festival composing of more than 20 events from Petone to the Akatarawa Forest.

The ten-day festival of cycling includes race events for hardened competitors and mountain bikers to casual rides by the Hutt River for those new to cycling.

Hutt City Council Recreation Programmer Aileen Campbell said the festival celebrates the Hutt Valley as a fantastic cycling destination.

“We’re very lucky to have an abundance of opportunities for cycling here in our natural environment.

“We’re keen to see more people exploring our rivers, trails, hillsides and reserves and for them to give into their sense of adventure while using an environmentally sustainable form of active transport.

Aileen is looking forward to growing Hutt Valley’s vibrant community of cycle clubs, bike lovers, trail explorers, seasoned racers and beyond the mix of events.

“Those new to riding can find something for them and join a great bunch of people no matter their level of adventure.”

“There are competitive options for riders of all levels of fitness at the Tour de Hutt road race around Whitemans Valley, the Karapoti Classic – the longest running mountain bike event in the Southern Hemisphere and the Awesome Foursome event at BrewTown.

“Or, if they’re looking for more of a social experience, they could try the Picnic by Bike, Frocks and Finery – a guided tour of the Hutt River, an E-Bike Safari, or the Go Home by Bike day featuring Toy Story 4 as a bike-in movie for kids, Big Bike Film Night at the Lighthouse Cinema in Petone.”
